The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for areas mainly to the west of the Dallas Ft. Worth metroplex, but have included Sherman, Denton and Ft. Worth in the weather watch. Here's the official text of the watch:

Total accumulations of sleet and snow of 3 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts in excess of 6 inches across parts of Young, Jack, and Montague counties. WHERE...Along and northwest of a line from Comanche to Sherman. WHEN...From late tonight through Wednesday afternoon. IMPACTS... Slick roads and bridges are expected in areas where sleet and snow accumulates. Travel impacts are expected across parts of the region. Please share to spread the word!
Sorry to burst some of y'alls bubbles, but it doesn't look like we're going to see icemagadden 2, just a nice snow event as some snowfall accumulations are still possible across the DFW metroplex Wednesday. We're looking through the data and the newest models continue to suggest that the DFW area will continue to see the chance for seeing snowfall across the area and now that we have gotten a little closer to the event we are beginning to see a little more of how the event could possibly unfold in the coming days. Areas to the west of the metroplex could see the highest places with Decatur, to Mineral Wells and Comanche seeing possibly upwards of 1 to 2 inches. The further you go to the west of the DFW metroplex like Henrietta they could possibly see upwards of 2 to 4 inches.
Timing for this event will likely take place during the afternoon hours on Wednesday. We'll post an update tomorrow with the nailed down specifics of timing. Please share this post to help spread the word.
What should you look forward too for the immediate DFW metroplex on Wednesday as the next round of potential wintry weather moves through the area? Well we have everything that you need to know right here in this blog post. For folks that are living in the immediate DFW metroplex we are expecting mainly a sleet/snow mix of precipitation and an eventual change over to all snow as the weather system moves through Wednesday afternoon. In parts of western and southwestern north Texas they have the highest chances of seeing accumulating snowfall totals and the potential for seeing 7+ inches according to latest forecast models. And finally for folks across the eastern half of the immediate metroplex we are still fairly confident that that area will remain mainly a rainfall event with the chance for seeing a brief snow mixture as the system exits the region. We are also thinking that southwestern and western parts of north Texas could and this is a big COULD could potentially see 5-9 inches of accumulating precipitation. The DFW metro, I'm still fairly comfortable with saying the decent amount is 1-4 inches. However, in the eastern half of the metro, your totals that you can possibly expect are basically between a trace to an inch, depending on location of the heaviest snow bands as they move through the region on Wednesday.

The latest computer models are in and we are continuing to anticipate the chance for wintry precipitation this upcoming Wednesday into Wednesday afternoon and during the evening hours into early part of Thursday. The National Weather Service has indicated that the best chance for seeing wintry precipitation will be right over the metroplex. If your to the east of Kaufman to Athens and east it will be a mainly rainfall event with the chances for seeing some wintry precipitation mixed in. In the immediate DFW metroplex, the chances for a wintry mix are decent with a transition to a sleet and snow mix potentially later in the day after the main event. For the areas to the north west of the metroplex, we are expecting the rain to transition into a mainly sleet and snow mix. The area is more than likely going to have the best chances for seeing accumulating snow. We feel comfortable calling for somewhere between 1 to 4 inches for the immediate DFW metroplex with higher amounts falling to the southwest of the Dallas Ft. Worth metroplex, and lesser amounts to the east of the area. We will continue to monitor the chance and keep an eye on the accumulations and make sure our data is correct.
